Civil Designer (Portland Office)
Froelich Engineers, Inc. is seeking a full-time, in-person civil designer with zero to two (0 to 2) years of experience for our Portland office location.

As a Civil Designer, you will play a key role in the planning and design of site development projects. You will work under the supervision of licensed professional engineers while gaining hands-on experience in grading, stormwater management, utilities, and site layout. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare site layout and grading plans for commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments
- Design stormwater systems including detention, conveyance, and water quality facilities
- Design and coordinate water, sanitary sewer, and storm utility systems
- Develop civil construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, landscape architects, and public agencies
- Assist with permit submittals and respond to jurisdictional review comments
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to technical design discussions
- Conduct site visits during construction and assist with construction administration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- New college graduates and applicants with up to two (2) years of experience in civil design
- EIT [Engineer in Training] or EI [Engineer Intern] certification (or results pending)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Positive and professional attitude
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn
- Experience with civil design software and AutoCAD C3D is a plus
Compensation, Benefits, Opportunities
- Competitive Salary based on experience and qualifications: $65,000 to $75,000 a year

As a Civil Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning and design of site development projects. Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil site design for commercial, residential, and mixed-use development projects from schematic design through construction documents
- Prepare and oversee grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility design calculations and plan production
- Design stormwater systems including detention, conveyance, water quality, and infiltration facilities in accordance with local jurisdictional standards
- Design and coordinate water, sanitary sewer, and storm utility systems, including utility relocations and public improvements when required
- Develop and review civil construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and prepare supporting technical documentation
- Coordinate directly with architects, structural engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and public agencies
- Prepare permit submittals and lead responses to jurisdictional review comments
- Attend and participate in client meetings, agency meetings, and internal coordination meetings
- Support construction administration, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and performing site visits
- Mentor junior designers and support internal quality control processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- Three to eight (3–8) years of civil site design experience (commercial and/or residential development preferred)
- PE license required • Demonstrated experience in grading design, stormwater management, and utility coordination
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D • Experience working with local jurisdictional standards and permitting processes
- Strong technical writing and communication skills • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with limited oversight
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with leadership potential
- Construction administration experience preferred
